Welcome to SELF Platform

by admin last modified 2008-06-25 15:03

This is a collaborative space for teachers and authors to build courses suitable for various kinds of delivery (online, offline, print, web). This site uses SELF Platform an outcome of the SELF Project. (http://www.selfproject.eu). The site is multi-lingual. We encourage you to develop courses in your language. You may want to translate an existing course into your language of choice. History of all changes made to courses is available for everyone to view.

Quick Start

Some useful hints to begin working in this collaborative space!

  • Join as a member.
  • Use Materials tab to see the list of collections, and browse the courses.  Most collections may not have any courses, which is an invitation to you to choose your area and begin to add a course and start working.
  • From the collection manager you can choose the area of your expertise, and may want to edit an already existing course, or add a course.
  • If the collection that you want is not present, please send us an email or use the 'contact' link with the desired name of the collection and the position/s where you want the collection to appear in the tree.
  • The Platform mainly offers the following applications:
    • Collection manager: (currently this is not available to all the users.  When some users obtain higher rating by contributing useful courses, they will get the additional privilege to edit collections.)  Each collection is a group of courses.  A course can appear in more than one collection.  While adding a course, choose the collections under which you want the course to appear.
    • Course Manager:  The course manager provides a way of creating, editing, organizing, deleting the following course components:
      • Lessons
      • Glossary
      • Frequently Asked Questions
      • Links, References
      • Tests and Questions
      • An embedded editor
    • Lesson Organizer: You can sequence the way the lessons are required to be delivered by organizing them in a hierarchy.  More advanced ways of linking and establishing dependencies between learning objects will be provided as the platform advances.
    • File Manager: A place to upload and also download useful resources, particularly images, and courses in other format that you want to convert and build them further.  Currently we support only SCORM Import.
    • Shelf Manager: A unique feature of this platform to recombine the learning resources from course into another.
    • Version Manager: A place to see the differences between versions of lessons.  Changes made to both data and metadata of all the objects is tracked.  Who did what change, and when are recorded.
We are in the process of writing a detailed GUIDE (well! a course about how to build courses) explaining how each of the applications work in the site.  Meanwhile if you wish to contact us, use the contact and write to us.
